8/23/98 11:16 am Quail lake, Rain. We found a frog with only one eye. This lake was scheduled for rotenone treatment last fall to control a pumpkinseed (sunfish) population explosion. Amy is looking in an emergence pen for dragonflies that have crawled to shore to emerge from their larval stage. The larvae crawl toward shore and emerge from the water on whatever dry surface they meet. If they happen to travel to the shore into one of these pens then they get trapped there because one end of the pen is usually under water. Later, Amy comes along with a battery powered "dustbuster" and vacuums them into a jury-rigged collection cup. You can see the dustbuster sticking out of Amy's backpack. |
